Making Stuff With Molly – Color Block Sneakers
16 Jul
Remember how I made a shelf and told everyone I know about it ad nauseum. Meet the new “shelf”. I am obsessed with these sneakers and how they turned out. I’m SO PLEASED with them. Bonus: They were super easy and super cheap. There are so many jokes in there.
A few weeks ago, I hung out with my friend Beth to have a crafty/ice cream afternoon. She had just finished painting some sneakers and I was all “oooh giiiirl” about them.
The inspiration, on Beth’s feet. I love anything bright and colorful and I loooove the color block shoe trend.
Once I followed up to see how her sneakers were faring (well) I decided to give it a try.
The supplies:
- White canvas shoes – they have these at H&M right now for $12.95. No H&M near you? Here’s an option from Amazon.com
- Acryllic paints – I used inexpensive craft paints and they hold up just fine. I knew I wanted a metallic toe but wasn’t quite sure on the color. I almost squealed when I found the Halo Violet Gold. It’s PERFECT.
- Flat brush – this shape makes it easy to get around the sole cleanly.
- Painter’s Tape (Optional, I was too lazy)
I didn’t have any masking or painter’s tape so I just free handed the line. Here they are after the first couple of coats of the purple.
Aaand after a couple coats of the gold. Mmmmmm.
Added some gold to the pull tab on the back. I let these dry overnight.
They were a bit too lose without the laces but I kind of like the white laces anyway.
There you have it. Easy peasy, super cute.
Have you ever painted sneakers? Are you attempted to do it now? Show me!
