Big Apple Circus’ The Grand Tour: An International Extravaganza
Step into the Big Apple Circus Big Top and take a trip around the world and back in time at the circus troupe’s all-new show, The Grand Tour. It’s a circus extravaganza set in the 1920s and featuring acts from all over the world. Planes, trains, automobiles and ships will serve as the backdrop for breathtaking acts of wonder, accompanied by the seven-piece Big Apple Circus Band. This dazzling spectacular packs the ring with more thrills, more magic and more animals than ever before. Clowns, jugglers, acrobats, and aerialists from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Americas — as well as domestic and rescue animals — will amuse and captivate you with performances that leave you smiling and cheering for more.
Tickets normally range from $20 to $84, but with Goldstar you can get them for $10 to $40. Check it out this Sunday, April 10, at 4:30 pm for as low as $16. The circus is held at City Hall Plaza, steps from the Government Center and State Street T stationsThe Davis Square Theatre is just steps from the Davis Square T stop on the Red Line. Click here for the Google Map. Right across the street is the Kinsale Irish Pub and Restaurant, serving Brunch on Sundays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and if you have your kids with you I recommend the Kids’ Brunch for children under the age of 12. For just $6 they get silver dollar pancakes, french toast, or one egg any style served with home fries and a choice of chocolate milk, juice, or soda. Cheap brunch followed by cheap entry in to the Big Apple Circus? Sounds like a great plan for this Sunday April 10th!!

Jazz Star Esperanza Spalding’s New Project,Emily’s D+Evolution
Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding is one of today’s most exciting and unique performers. The groundbreaking young jazz bassist, vocalist and cellist, who says she models her career on those of Madonna and Ornette Coleman, is touring in support of her new album, Emily’s D+Evolution. “Emily is my middle name,” Spalding’s explained, “and I’m using this fresh persona as my inner navigator.” The stage presentation of her latest recording will feature all-new songs that are staged as live musical vignettes. That means a set of characters, video projections and choreographed performances linked to each tune. Catch this envelope-pushing star in a new light when she comes to the stage of Boston’s Shubert Theatre.
The next available show technically isn’t this weekend, it’s actually this coming Tuesday, April 12th, at 7:30 pm at the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre located at 265 Tremont Street in Boston, MA 02116, right near the Tufts Medical Center T stop on the Orange Line. Click here for the Google Map.
Pair this performance up with $2 taco night at 647 Tremont, just a mile away from the theatre, and you’ll look like the best date planner ever without breaking the bank! Or, if that’s too far from the theatre for you then try Abby Lane right across the street. You and your date can share a 10 inch margherita pizza for $14 or local oysters for $3 each. Oysters are said to be an aphrodisiac you know 😉 Oysters, cocktails, jazz …. that’s a sexy night out right there.

Blue Man Group: Worldwide Sensation at the Charles Playhouse
From the beating drums to the splashing paint to the sensory surprises at every turn, the Blue Man Group experience is wildly intense and totally unique. The show combines comedy, music and technology — but no words — to create a pulsing rhythm that unites people of all ages, languages and cultures in a spirit of joy. Reviewers describe it as “visually stunning,” “wildly inventive,” and “hysterically funny” — and audiences often come away speechless, with a huge smile on their faces. An international sensation, the Blue Man Group has made themselves a longtime home at Boston’s Charles Playhouse, nestled in the heart of the Theater District, just steps from Boston Common.
If you’re even remotely considering this show, I recommend you ACT NOW! They are already sold out for the afternoon shows on Saturday and Sunday. The only show this weekend with tickets still remaining (as of 9:45 am Friday) is the 11:00 am show. Normally these tickets would cost you almost 100 bucks a pop, $92.50 to be exact, but with Goldstar you can snag them for only $64.75. That’s a savings of $27.75 per ticket!! If you’re treating this as a date with your significant other then just think about how you can put that $55.50 (savings from 2 tickets) towards a killer breakfast before the show or lunch/dinner afterwards. For breakfast I recommend Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston Best Breakfast Sandwich 2014 winner, Mike and Patty’s. Grab a quick bite and then enjoy an easy 0.2 mile stroll to the Charles Playhouse. If you were running late and missed breakfast, head to McGreevy’s where you can get an egg and cheese on Texas toast for only $1 until 3:00 pm. Or, if you’re looking for a full lunch after the show, which lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, I recommend the Jacob Wirth German Restaurant just a 5 minute walk from the Playhouse. You’ve started your day with something unique and different, The Blue Man Group, so why not keep that going by trying some classic German food nearby.
The show is held at the Charles Playhouse at 74 Warrenton St, Boston, MA 02116. Click here for the Google Map.
